Welcome to Stockmanship for the Mind.
A podcast from The State of Mind Consultancy, primarily for farmers, rural professionals and all you countryside folk — although, if you’re town or city based, you might find something here for you too!
I’m sharing a completely different, and perhaps radical, understanding of the mind, known as the 3 Principles — or, as it’s sometimes called, The Inside-Out Understanding. I’ll explain more about what that means in later episodes, but for now, let’s start with a simple question:
Where does our experience actually come from?
It looks like our experience is coming from life, doesn’t it? From our relationships, our work, our families, our friends, the weather, the bills, the endless jobs that need doing...
But here’s the thing: it’s actually coming from inside you.
Yes, really.
That feeling you’re having right now? It’s coming from inside you.
So what does that have to do with farming and rural life?
Well, quite a lot.
It affects how we work with staff, how we relate to family, our husbands, wives or partners, how we respond to pressure, and how we handle the inevitable ups and downs of farming life.
And perhaps in farming, our state of mind — and the results of it — are just more obvious. There’s a ton of pressure, a million things to do, and quite literally, nowhere to hide!
And here’s the best bit...
All you have to do is listen.
As best you can, listen with nothing on your mind. Don’t take notes. Don’t try to work it all out. Just let it soak in, and see what fresh and new thinking might occur to you.
You never know what you might discover.
Welcome to Stockmanship for the Mind. I’m really glad you’re here.
Below you’ll find the player with all the episodes. Have a listen, and see what occurs to you. 😊

Stockmanship For the Mind Podcast is Now Live!
Welcome to Stockmanship for The Mind a new podcast run by me, Becky Tavernor aimed primarily at farmers, rural professionals and all countryside folk (although you might also like it if you’re town/city based too!)
I’m sharing a completely new and radical understanding of the mind, known as the 3 Principles (more on what they are later…) or alternatively called The Inside Out Understanding.
What if our thoughts can’t always be trusted? And how do we truly tell the difference between helpful and unhelpful thinking?
What if that simple distinction is really all that’s needed to improve our decision making, improve our relationships, enjoy life more and, just do better?
How does that relate to rural life and farming? In every way! Whether it’s managing staff, improving family relations, making better business decisions, dealing with challenges more easily or just feeling better and having more verve… a simple change in understanding is all it takes.
And the best news… all you have to do is listen! As best you can, listen with nothing on your mind. Don’t take notes, just let it soak in and see what new and fresh thinking occurs to you.
Lets go!
