'It's how to see the thoughts come in, know that will happen... park them and get on with the job'

Tim Simmons, UK Shooting Team

Ways to work with me:

  • One-to-one coaching

  • Team training

Would you like to spend more time ‘in the zone?’

In elite sport, state of mind can make all the difference. You can have all the skill, fitness and experience in the world, but if your thoughts get in the way, performing at your best becomes much harder.

‘It's how to see the thoughts come in, know that will happen... park them and get on with the job'

Tim Simmons, UK Shooting Team

That voice in your head can knock you off track. It might tell you that you’re not good enough, make you question yourself at a crucial moment, or turn the thought “I could actually win this…” into a distraction that takes you out of the moment.

I work with elite sportsmen and women to help them spend less time caught up in their heads and more time fully engaged in what they’re doing. The aim is to make performing in the zone feel more natural and accessible.

Whether you’re a player struggling with self-belief, an individual athlete battling overthinking, or a team looking to perform more consistently under pressure, understanding how your state of mind works can be a game-changer.

Understanding your mind. Unlocking your performance.

We begin by exploring the relationship between thinking and feeling. Our thoughts shape how we feel, and when we take our thinking as the truth, we can find ourselves living within the limits it creates.

As we begin to understand this more deeply, something opens up. We gain perspective, our thinking becomes less of a distraction, and we become more available to whats happening in front of us.

From there, we work with whatever is most relevant to you, whether that’s confidence, pressure, concentration, decision-making, or the particular challenges you face in your sport.

One of the most important things to recognise is that when your attention is tied up in your thoughts, less of it is available for the performance itself. In elite sport, that difference can be crucial: the difference between hesitation and instinct, between missing a shot and performing at your best.

Coaching for individuals and teams

Understanding your state of mind can benefit athletes in both team and individual sports, though the coaching approach will reflect each sport's demands.

For teams, it can be valuable to explore these principles together and build a shared understanding of how thinking and feelings influence performance. From there, we can work more individually with players who would benefit from additional support.

For individual athletes, such as golfers and shooters, the work often begins with a deeper understanding of what’s happening in your mind during training and competition. By exploring the mechanics of thought, we can begin to loosen the grip of unhelpful thinking and make it easier to stay focused on the task at hand.

The work is always tailored to the individual or team, their sport and the challenges they face.

Your mind has a built-in navigation system

Every thought comes with a feeling. You can think of that feeling as an in-built satnav, offering insight into the quality of your thinking in that moment.

When you understand how this satnav works, you no longer have to treat every thought as a fact or every feeling as a signal that something is wrong. You can learn to recognise when your thinking is pulling you away from the moment, rather than getting caught up in it.

My coaching helps athletes develop this understanding — its a bit like being given the user's manual for their own minds.

The result?

Greater perspective, less time lost in overthinking, and more freedom to focus on what matters: performing in the moment and giving yourself the best opportunity to be in the zone.
